Spreading the Word

This week we got the opportunity to share our story as well as make people aware of the effects of meningitis and to spread the word on the great things that The Donna Louise Children's Hospice do. Last Saturday we got in touch with our local paper the Tamworth Herald to see if we could get them to take the photo today of the Cheque presentation with Gillway boys under 11's. Unfortunately they couldn't send a photographer so we arranged for a school friend of Matts, Michelle Martin from Visual Voice Media to come instead. She took some lovely photos and we will be sending these to the Herald to be published. From that first initial contact Senior Reporter Helen Machin contacted us and asked to do an interview on our story. She came out last Saturday and we talked through everything that we have gone through. We spoke about our favourite little man and all the things he use to get up. We Told her about all the wonderful people we have met on our journey and about all the things that are keeping us going. From our conversations Helen went away and wrote an amazing article that was printed in this weeks Tamworth Herald. We were lucky enough to get the front page as well a big spread on page 4. We managed to keep this a secret from family and friends. We came downstairs on Thursday to Tommy's smiling face beaming up from the front door mat. The response we have had from this article is phenomenal. Complete strangers sending us messages of love and support and also donating to Tommy's starlight fund to help us to help the hospice. Its another step for us to share our experiences with people, in the hope that we can prevent further family's from going through this horrendous journey by getting their children vaccinated against this horrible disease. But it's also a chance for us let others know of the great work done by the hospice and the different services available to everyone. So those family's who don't know about the hospice are aware, should they ever have the unfortunate time of needing them. Because we can say from the heart, we would not be where we are now without them. So a big Thank you to everyone involved to get this story out. We know our little man has touched so many hearts this last 9 Months. Its just heartbreaking that he had to break ours to do it. Thank you all again from the bottom of our hearts for all your love and support. Sending Lots of love Sharon, Martin, Matthew and our little Angel Tommy xxxx
