Today Mummy & Daddy went to the Children's Memorial Service at the Holy Trinity Church, Newcastle that has been organise by Stoke hospital. It was a very emotional day. We got to meet other parents who have also lost a child on the CITU. We were greeted by Chris the Vicar. She took us up to the room in the community hall that was all laid out with lots of activity's for the children and big kids alike to do. As we went in a friendly face greeted us, one whom we have great dealings with Kevin from the Hospice. We were greeted by his smiling face as always, which strangely gives you a sense of ease. We were then greeted by Kate who is the very special sister that looked after Tommy on the CITU. She not only looked after Tommy but she was the one the many that tried in vain to bring him back to us. She actually said today that the little man gave a good fight. She is also the one that persuaded us to go to the Donna Louise so we have so much to thank her for, we will be forever indebted to her. After talking to Kate she remembers Tommy so fondly and we were so touched. We looked at the Remembrance book and saw Tommy's smiling face shining from the book with his star poem and yes it was our favourite picture, the red jumper one that's everywhere. We told Kate all the things we have been doing and spoke about Tommy in our usual way. We were then encouraged to sit down and get a little creative so like big kids we sat down and we made various things for Tommy's Garden. Martin even got a bit carried away and had his face painted and as the theme was rainbows he had a rainbow painted on his cheek. We did our cloud message and pinned it to the rainbow board. Then it was time to walk over to the church for the service. We were asked to carry one of the candles in to the church and when the time came we were asked to light the candle. As per usual I think our little man was playing games with us because we had to light the candle a couple of times as it kept going out. We then continued with the service, sang some hymns. Then we all lit a candle for our children, Daddy was in charge of that one. We were all given a glow stick, of course mummy had to have the only purple one, daddy had a yellow one. Then it was off outside to let off the Balloons in the car park. Yes mummy's and daddy's were purple. The sky was full of a see of colours quite fitting for the rainbow theme. Then we went back inside for a quick cuppa and a little chat and then we drove home. We called to pick Matty up and then we all went to see Tommy. We put his wind chime and butterfly on his hooks in his little garden, the other things we need to weatherproof first. All in all it was very emotional and another step on our journey. Another day for to talk about out beautiful baby boy and spread the word of all the things we are doing to keep his beautiful memory alive xxxx
