Our Tommy

Tommy Was born on Wednesday 31st August 2011 at 12.31am, weighing 7lb 1oz. He had a full head of jet black hair, which soon fell out and grew back strawberry blond. He was a handful at times and he knew his own mind, but he was also so loving. He was a poorly child and was quite regularly at the hospital with his asthma. He loved going to Ark Nursery, but with his illness did loose a lot of time. On Tuesday 13th January 2015, Tommy woke as normal and was full of beans, but as the day wore on around 1pm he began to show signs of being unwell, He had a fever and didn't want to do anything. Around 6pm when Mummy came home she noticed one small little red spot on his neck and instantly did the glass test and the spot didn't go away. We then called the out of hours doctor which directed us onto the 111 service, various questions later we was told to go to the Nearest A&E. We threw a few things in the bag and shot straight off. As we arrived at the the hospital we was taken into a small room for a few minutes and then taken to the resus room where the treatment for Meningitis started straight away. He was pumped with antibiotics and various other drugs as well as fluids, but the rash then took hold and the poor little sole was covered from head to toe. The staff at Good Hope were exceptional and did their very best for Tommy Until the Guys from KIDS came to transfer him to the CICU in stoke. They again did their very best and spent over 3 hours on Tommy ventilating him to stabilise him for the journey. Tommy was then transferred to Stoke where again they did their very best for him but his little body was just not strong enough and after the third cardiac arrest, they just couldn't bring him back and Tommy Died at 12.35pm on Wednesday 14th January 2015. We then spent the next few hours at the hospital cuddling our little boy until we was transferred to The Donna Louise Children's Hospice, where we got to spend the next few days with our beautiful little boy. At first we wanted to be closer to home but after phoning around the different hospices no one would take us once Tommy had died. So we went to Tree Tops Hospice which was a beautiful place that we got to spend extra time with our little man and for all the family to come and say their last goodbyes. I cannot express how grateful we are to all the staff that made our last few days with Tommy so Special and without them we would not have been able to get through this. That is why we want to help them to help other family's like us and will be doing various Fundraising in the Future in Tommy's name to help them. Tommy left the Hospice on Friday 16th January and came closer to home so we could start to arrange his final journey. He came home on Friday 23rd January and spent the last few days in his bedroom. Tommy's final Journey Took Place on Wednesday 28th January at 12.33pm leaving home to go to Wilnecote Church followed by a burial at the Wilnecote cemetery, we let off a sea of balloons at his grave side and went to Wilnecote WMC for Refreshments and then once it got dark we let off some fireworks for all the little ones to remember Tommy. It was a perfect Day and celebration of Tommy's Life, just as we had planned. Heaven has gained one special little angel.
